| In the second phase of Mardan, ALP opened four adult literacy centers in the village Charguli. After pre-assessment by ALP and NRSP, Naveeda, Rafaqat, Sadaqat and Shagufta started their duties as teachers of these centers. During the
induction of the first book residents of the area started creating problems for the centers as they had misconception about NGOs and detest involvement of females in their activities. An unfortunate incident was also happened due to such mind set of the people over the commencement of these literacy centers. |
| |
| The result of such incident led two of the centers premature close down while in one of the remaining two centers which were managed by Sadaqat had a very low participation rate of learners till its end. The fourth center was steering by Shagufta. She utilized all her efforts so as to prevail her center. People spread rumors that these centers are non-religious and NGOs under such activities
disperse their hidden agenda. The impact on the only active center, due to the situation, was the lack of interest from learners and participation got lower and lower each day. When inquired to their families, she came to know that they don’t want to send their females for such education. Secondly the families were also panicked of the incident happened at the start of these literacy centers. Shagufta started counseling about the benefits of adult literacy and transparency of these literacy centers but no one agreed to persist. |
| |
| Shagufta acquired the last option in her mind to go to her learners home and continue the studies. She convinced the families of her learners and after
dialogue; she succeeded to start sessions at their residents. She, effectively, completed all the 4 books at their home individually. The biggest advantage yielded from this strategy was that of this everyone saw that the rumors were false about the literacy program and NGOs. |
| |
| All credit goes to Shagufta, who has brave heartedly completed her assignment under such stress. Her enthusiasm to work and commitment led her completed the adult literacy center successfully. |
