In September 2005, ALP-NRSP adult literacy project was launched in Turbat. Turbat is considered as one of the most difficult and hard to work district in Pakistan. AFT team experienced lack of learners as people lived in small number of groups after kilometres of travel.
Despite of all hurdles, AFT opened 51 centers and 1326 learners were enrolled. All 51 centers were successfully completed in March 2006 and 1064 learners were passed out. Teachers training were imparted to 39 female and 12 male teachers. Extreme weather conditions were also the reason for low participation rate. With all these difficulties AFT team devotedly worked as a challenge, however, previously most of the literacy projects failed due to such drawback. The support from NRSP staff was also unforgettable in such conditions. |

| The 2nd phase of ALP-NRSP adult literacy project in Swat was likely to start in January 2007, but due to ethnic/religious aggression towards NGOs activities, this phase was started in February 2007. |

| In April 2006, second assignment was awarded by NRSP to establish more adult literacy centers in Turbat. AFT team was pragmatic that due to rough and vast geographical terrain it was difficult to cover most of the areas in the previous phase. Keeping in view earlier
experiences, the team assertively accepted the task. In this phase 51 adult literacy centers were opened in Turbat. 1402 learners were identified and enrolled. This project was successfully completed in July 2006 in which 1189 learners were passed out. A total of 60
teachers were given training in which 44 female and 16 were male. |
