| ALP-NRSP Adult Literacy Project | |

| Swat was the new addition in adult literacy activities going on in NWFP. The project was started in June 2006 in which 52 centers were opened. Initially 1521 learners were identified and enrolled under this project. At conclusion, 49 centers were successfully completed in December 2006 wherein, overall 54 teachers were trained (52 female and 2 male teachers) and 1136 learners were benefited. The project was completed in December 2007. There were certain aspects of petite involvement rate in Swat. At the outset, distrust of people on NGOs previously worked there for literacy projects due to their substandard work and repute and secondly female participation problem due to cultural and religious bindings. Despite of all that AFT team put all their efforts to minimize such hitches and conclude with some productive results. |

| The 2nd phase of ALP-NRSP adult literacy project in Swat was likely to start in January 2007, but due to ethnic/religious aggression towards NGOs activities, this phase was started in February 2007. | |
| The target was to open 50 adult literacy centers and impart literacy to 1500 learners. In pursuance of the target 53 centers were opened in which 1432 learners were identified, enrolled and benefited. The teachers training were imparted to 57 female teachers. The project was successfully concluded in August 2007 due to above obstacles. NRSP, through local residents provided its full support in identi- fication of learners and teachers so as to progress smoothly without any hiccups. | |
