| ALP-NRSP Adult Literacy Pilot Project |
| |
Implementing Partner: Azaan Foundation Trust (AFT)
Donor Agency: NRSP
Geographic Area: Mardan
Phase: 1st (First)
Status: Completed |

| The first ALP’s Adult Literacy Pilot Project started in Mardan in November 2004 with the financial assistance of National Rural Support Program NRSP. An MOU was signed for opening 50 literacy centers in which 1500 learners will get benefited. |
| |
| The main focus in this project was on female education. Most women in NWFP live in rural areas are illiterate, and are viewed not as
producers but as dependent consumers, linked to a vicious circle of poverty, depletion of resources, and a deteriorating quality of life. So to approach such deprived population AFT functioned with the
support of NRSP as they were already involved into different
community projects going on in Mardan district. In June 2005, 48
centers were successfully completed and 1336 learners were passed out. 91 female and 6 male teachers were trained during the entire project. |
